Maaan the moment I pressed play, I thought I was playing a flash game from 2006! I like how y'all made it sound very old. Are those General Midi instruments?

ZuwerWS responds:

I'm glad you liked it. Some of the instruments are midi samples, while others are taken directly from Flex (Plugin in FL Studio). I didn't really think about it sounding vintage while making the thing, although I like your take on it. That maybe due to the overall lack of mixing / mastering though as I didn't have time to do anything else other than basic audio leveling.

DaxCamdaxian responds:

Zuwer was in charge of selecting most of the instruments and he was the one who through the mix managed to give it that retro touch, i put some ideas here and there to enrich what he was generating but the credit for giving it that nostalgic vibe is completely his

Excellent song! The structure is good, and nice jazz.

ZuwerWS responds:

Regarding the structure I'm not 100% satisfied about it. There are two main factors as for why it came out the way it did: Gentle Giant / Time Crunch. Last week right in the middle of when I was working on this song was the first time I listened to any song of Gentle Giant, and to be honest I love their progression and style. I already listened to the entirety of the first album, and today once I'm done with the solo for the second NGMC song I'm gonna listen to the second album. I also originally, well during the day I was really crunching it hoped that I'd have enough time to turn the minute long solo into a four minute long one and basically have it switch much less frequently, and develop each of the little tunes it transitions to much more, but eventually I was just so tired and done I decided to take everything I had and make a Frankenstein monster out of the solo, and while I think it does sound alright, I definitely wished for much more, but oh well, I'll try to make my next attempt much better

¡10/10!

ZuwerWS responds:

Strike (Wii sports clapping sounds)

Well, this is not a style I were expecting, this track is pretty original. In the context of the entry, it could really evoke me a race, I have a scene in mind while listening to it, the only thing that perturbates me... Well, since I started to write this before the end of the song, I need to delete what I were writing. Anyway, nice work. Tho the style itself reminds me of pokemon retro games

Overall ranking : 8/10
Theming rank : 8/10

ZuwerWS responds:

If I could ask you, what was the thing you were meaning to write? You got me curious

This is quite a cute song! This track is unique in the way that it leans more in the arctic side of the theme, rather than the racing side (unlike most other submissions who do it the other way around). This also sounds perfect for VGM, which is also nice. It does get a bit repetitive over time though.
.
Composition/production: 7/10
Mix/master: 8/10
Relevance to the theme: 7.5/10

ZuwerWS responds:

I'm curious why you think it's repetetive, is it the drums? The bass? Because I went for a structure that at least to me tries to be as fresh and not loopy as I could in the short amount of time I had. Of course it could just be opinions but eitherway I'm curious
