If you can't so much as guarantee credits for the people contributing to your game, you can't expect anyone to take you seriously. So I'm locking this.

If you're trying to do what I think you're trying to do... Don't.

NG Audio Portal is for original creations only, this is not a filesharing site. Uploading other peoples music will get you banned.

When people just randomly send me a link, I ignore it. Regardless of what it is, who it's from, or on what medium it was sent.

You'll find that people will show more interest if you include more information in the thread than saying, "PM me for more info".

Just sayin'.

Do you have to post the tracks you REVIEWED?

I dont seem to get many reviews even though ive left numerous genuine reviews.

Is this the reason why? because I havent been posting the tracks I reviewed?

Follow the rules and the format of the thread, and you'll get reviews. When I go through this thread from time to time, if I see people just posting their own track without reviewing the above, I delete the post without warning. It's plainly obvious how the thread works, and I'm tired of explaining it to people who can't read the thread or even look up 1 or 2 posts to see how things are happening.

And many people will skip over people who did not review the previous track.

Here is what I'm talking about. It has 3,352 plays and 20,595 downloads. For some reason, I didn't earned any cent out of it. How come? Is the numbers just won't cut it? Or the listeners/the people who downloaded the track chose not to click the ads?

The high download count probably means it was used in a flash, a fairly popular one.

The lack of any revenue means that whoever used it gave you 0% share of the ad revenue... Cause greedy bastard.

The 3,000+ views without any revenue isn't really uncommon, I average around 2,000-3,000 views, and the vast majority of my songs have not made a cent.
On the flip side, I have a song with nearly 16,000 views, and it's only made $1.58.

If you're looking for ad revenue, NG really isn't the place you should be expecting it from. You'd be much better off working towards such a goal on Youtube, among other places.

I'm pretty sure all submissions are immediately set up for revenue. However, if I recall correctly, your songs will only make revenue if they're featured in a game or animation.

Hope this helps!
Thanks! It helped a lot. Now I know that one won't get anything if his track has been downloaded a thousand times but not featured on any games or animation.

Not true.

The song that has made me the most money is one that has never been in a flash/game. Any page with ads will generate ad revenue for you. Including your profile page (which is where the vast majority of mine comes from).

I have a feeling these ratings are kinda biased. Like Step said, FL's interface works perfect for me and lots of others, but a lot of people complain that it's 'too easy' and 'unprofessional' just because they started out with other, 'harder' DAWs like Live or Cubase.

I think a lot of the bias against FL comes from the colorful interface. People look at it and immediately assume it's "unprofessional" just because it's colorful... as if a DAW has to be a flat pallet of grays and blacks or something to be "professional" in appearance.

I'm in the same boat, I find the interface easy to work with, in fact, I prefer it over most other DAW's I've tried (And I've tried quite a few).

On that note though, I use FL Studio and always will unless something else jumps out at me. There's no point not to.

Synths are no different, there are far too many, and it is far too subjective to name just a few as industry standards. They all do different things, and the toolset musicians use overall is incredibly diverse.

A lot of the higher end VSTs will often include a list somewhere on their site of artists that use that particular VST, but you really shouldn't be choosing VSTs based on who else uses them. Instead look for VSTs that suit your personal style.

Also, is there an industry standard of anything? I'm curious what the current greats use but I can never find any information on the matter.

There are no industry standards, you'll find what professional artists use is just as diverse as what the people of NG use. Many professional artists use FL Studio, many use Ableton, many use Reason, many use Logic, many use Cubase, etc. etc.

What I said before applies here as well, it's not the tool, but how you use it. Some people feel more comfortable with certain tools. That's all it really comes down to. And just as many artists actually use various different tools (I believe Deadmau5 for example uses both FL Studio and Ableton).

I'll check out what you linked for sure, but if you have any of those free VSTs you talk of, shoot some my way if you don't mind!

Most of the VSTs I, personally, use aren't free, save a couple like DSK Music Box and T-Force Alpha Plus (Both of which I would recommend).

What I can suggest though is bookmarking KVRAudio. There are tons of awesome VSTs, both paid and free you can find there. Anyone that fancies themselves a musician of any sort should have that site bookmarked.

This seems to be an extremely common misconception about music. You do not require high-grade, professional quality instruments/VSTs to make good compositions. That is a myth, and is often a cop out for, "I'll be better if I have better tools".

It's not true, and you should get that thought out of your head. Your tools do not make you a better composer, how you use them does. You can have the best tools in the world, but if you don't have the skill or knowledge to use them, you will never make good use of them. There are tons of composers here on NG that use free VSTs and soundfonts that compose better music than many people who have spent thousands of dollars on "High grade professional tools".

It's not the tools you use, it's how you use them.

That said...

Response to: How to remove unpublished audio Posted November 15th, 2014 in Audio

When you go into a live project, you should have an option to "Unpublish" it.

Once it's unpublished, go into the project again, and it will give you an option to "Delete Audio", which will put the entire project in the trash, where you can choose to restore it at any time should you decide you don't want it gone at a later date.

As far as I know, it is not possible to clear your project trash bin, and I'm not sure if projects in there conflict with new projects at all.

I suppose then that is sarcasm...

I was hoping to get a collection of all sorts of artists across all different genres, and ideally for streamers aside from me, which is why I thought I would leave it with as little specification as possible. What do you think I should include?

What exactly are you going to be using the music for? What are you streaming? Are you monetizing the stream (I'm sure twitch has some form of monetization, because I know there are people that make a living streaming there)? If it's monetized, are you offering some form of compensation for the artists? Would you provide a link to your twitch channel or at least tell us a little bit about what you do?

Just coming to a community full of artists, artists that do a medium of art that is often abused and stolen no less, and saying, "Hi, I want to use your music."
And then not providing any other information is usually a red flag for "DON'T TRUST THEM!"

If you had included a bit of information along the lines of the questions I asked above, you probably would have gotten a flood of people already offering up stuff for you to use.
