Your class should think of a punishment to the teacher for not showing up on time.

I suggest deducting 20 points from the teacher. When a total of 50 points are deducted, your class would draft a letter to the school principal requesting a reduction in her salary.

I always thought that you could share the grief among your siblings, and make it easier to cope with, if you had one.

Mardi Gras. I think some people may be interested in it.

Response to: It's impossible to not be selfish Posted February 6th, 2023 in General

I almost never volunteered to do work for the needy. It drains energy from me and I am not good at people skills. I think some participate in volunteer work because it gives them satisfaction. So being a volunteer does not completely prove you are not selfish.

I did however set up monthly autopay for donations to charity (1-2% of income) and I guess it makes me a good person.

Earthquakes are not uncommon here. But I never noticed one until it was on the news.

Penguins are an important source of CP violation (asymmetry between matter and anti-matter).

Response to: When was it time to leave your job? Posted February 3rd, 2023 in General

I did not resign. I lost my first job because the company downsized from 10 staff to just 3.

In retrospect, I should have resigned much earlier. Workload was fine but I was underpaid and I did not learn anything as everything I did was simple.

I moved to my current company where I am in charge of IPO projects and they give me 20% raise every year.

Oh, and you suppose your fancy weather models are any better? The weather can't be predicted. Only summoned through sacrifice to agricultural and weather deities.

Winter in the East Coast is over and no amount of sacrifice from Joe BUSTardi can change that.

According to the calendar, we still have over 6 weeks until the first day of spring. Surprising, isn't it?

Weather forecast can be made on various time scales. Short term forecast that goes out to a couple of days emphasise on the finer details, such as tornado and snowfall potentials.

There are also forecasts that are made on seasonal time scales (for a month up to 12 months). Unlike traditional forecasts, these seasonal forecasts only capture the average conditions over a long period of time (e.g. warmer than average or colder than average temperature) instead of explicitly predicting the day to day variations.

In short, the longer the forecast period, the less detail it has.

Groundhog prediction has no scientific basis and is nothing but superstition.

The Climate Prediction Center provides official forecast up to 3 months in advance.

Winter is over for the East Coast. Wait, it never began.

This “winter” will end up as one of the warmest and least snowiest in 50 years.

Response to: 1 lap 60 seconds Posted February 1st, 2023 in General

At my high school, we had to run 4k as part of fitness assessment. I remember running 10 laps in 30 minutes was the minimum for a passing grade. You would get the top grade if you finished it within 20 minutes. Most people could complete it within 25 minutes and they were not trained.

We also did 400 meters run but very few could run 400 meters in under 60 seconds. 75-90 seconds is much more reasonable for beginners.
