Howdy ho, it's about that time. 16 pages can be alot for some but I'd really appreciate it if y'all checked this update out (or the series as a whole) and give me your thoughts ^^
Howdy guys, been awhile! I just postedthe most recent chapter of my webcomic yesterday and would love some feedback from y'all :) !!!!!!READS RIGHT TO LEFT AS PER USUAL!!!!!!

I have a feeling I might have commented on an earlier chapter in which case this will probably be much the same, or maybe I just thought about it but didn't get around to actually write the comment to the earlier chapter.
There is a lot that is very good about the comic.
Well layed-out, clear panels/gutters, clean lines, a good font. The characters are clear and each individual is easily identified at first glance. The figure drawings are OK. A bit of room for improvement but not bad in any way.
Backgrounds are used sparingly, but they get the job done. I'm fine with that
The storytelling is good. The story itself does not do much for me, but it is told well enough.
The thing that takes all that away for me is the right-left reading of the panels. The combination of left to right reading of the text and right to left reading of the panel order, makes for very choppy reading of the comic, which significantly lower the reading experience of the comic... for me that is.
I suppose that this comes from manga. In Japan the natural reading order is right to left (sort of). Text is printed top to bottom (in the most usual style of writing or printing Japanese text, tategaki), but the lines of text are ordered right to left. With that the natural order of reading panels in a manga is right to left (as the tategaki style generally is used in manga).
When manga first was translated to English the art was was turned mirror-wise to get a left to right reading order of the panels. Some of the Japanese creators were unhappy about this, having the opinion that this made their art look less good (???), and we got the original right to left reading order of translated manga.
Interestingly there is another way to order text in Japanese, yokogaki, which is the same order that western text is written, left to right, lines from top to bottom. A book printed using yokogaki style will open and sides will be turned the way a western book does, while a tategaki begins at the back (from a western perspective) and flips the other way.
Yokogaki with left to right is fairly recent, less than 100 years.
Tategaki is used in manga. It would be interesting to see how a manga that used Yokogaki would be ordered. I suspect the panels would be ordered the same way as a western comic, but I know of no such case. I do expect it something that will come, maybe first on the web (if it has not yet happened).
Any way, to make a comic intended for western text in a backward reading order panelwise, makes no sense to me.
This, too me, is to limit the number of people that will read the comic. I think you are hurting your possibilities to reach more people by doing it this way.
Thanks for the feedback! The right-to-left format is definitely a novelty that I figured would be off for people that don't actively read manga I think. When it comes to reading this comic on newgrounds it's probably the most awkward since on Tapas/webtoon you scroll down for pages, and for mangadex I can format it manga style so reading there is the most ideal. No excuse though as it really can by clunky to read regardless and I apologize for that. I really appreciate the lesson on different writing formats too! I had no idea about the yokogaki style over there so that's pretty dope.

Back at it again, I'd love some insight on this recent chapter update ^^
How goes it? If you guys are feeling up to it I'd love to hear some feedback and critiques on the most recent chapter of my webcomic. I want to get started on the next chapter ASAP but before that I'd like to try to improve on some areas as needed before moving forward. Love yall, you can check it out right here!
Here I am with an update to my webcomic, Eastend! It just needs 4 more votes so I'd really appreciate it if you guys check it out and gave me your thoughts ^^
My entry is up!
Even though this isn't a one shot, Id like to thank Kittyhawk for hosting this comic contest as it gave a personal deadline and a reason to get off my butt lol.
Looking forward to seeing everyone's comics ^^

Looks nice! Good to see a webcomic community rising over here. Here be my project, working on the 2nd chapter right now. Shooting to get it done by early November! Working a full time job definitely slows down my process but what can you do?
I should do one of these OC threads hue hue. Heres my daughter.

A fuck ton of things have influenced me and my philosophy towards character design. The one that probably hits the hardest is Akira Toriyama's "less is more" approach.

Fair, if a bit reductive.

It's crazy because I hardly, if at all, interact with the negative tweets or discourse. It just gets summoned on to my timeline because of other artists.

the way that twitter encourages artists to grow and act is honestly pretty harmful and it just harvests lots of toxicity and ego in the young folk
it's pretty shitty overall
The abundance of minors reallyyyyy doesn't help lol glad to see I'm not alone on this I guess.

I just don't know where to start when it comes to drawing more dynamically with things like forced perspective and squash/stretch. Movement and action lines are something I've always wanted to try but idk. I get caught up in my own methods and I'm tired of it!!
Do you guys have any advice? Tips or tricks? Any artists or books you'd suggest looking at? Mantras? Silver bullets?
Based on what I've seen (nice art btw!) You've got it down I think. Practice gesture drawings more and my main advice would be using the line of action, that is a game changer for a lot of poses and sequences.

my problem though is that I don't know which drawing tablet would be the best one for me to choose, I would rather not choose a expensive ass tablet for industry professionals since I definitely can't afford it and honestly I'd rather choose something simpler and to the point where I can hook into my pc, open flash or something and start going at it
any help or thoughts ?
Depends on your budget but I think the GAOMON PD1161 is a really good starting tablet. Affordable and a big enough screen to get started.

Seems alright, but not really my thing.
"An boy" is not correct grammar- should be "a boy".
(Only words starting in vowels- a,e,i,o, or u - get "an". Except unicorn for some reason.)
"Ima" should probably be "I'm a" or I'ma", but it's intentional incorrect grammar so it's not as big of a deal.
Seems like an okay slice-of-life- hope your intended audience finds it.
Thanks for giving it a shot! ^^ the "an boy" was intentional.

I read your comic and I thought it was pretty good. Your art style is very interesting and distinct, with the thin linework and limited use of screentone. I also liked the character designs, the main cast is rather diverse and you're not slavishly sticking to idealized high-school student archetypes you would see in teen shows. Story-wise it's just getting started, but you're setting up lots of opportunities that you can mine later. The scene transitions could be a little more organic (i.e. without using text boxes saying "let's check in on [character]"), but this is just nitpicking. Overall, you're off to a good start. Good luck with the rest of the comic!
I appreciate the kind words and the feedback my dude! I'll keep the transitioning better in mind ^^
Howdy. Self promo post but I am also looking for some criticism and thoughts on my webcomic! Here are some random pages and the links to check them out in full ^^
!!!READS RIGHT TO LEFT LIKE A MANGA!!!
Eastend is a slice of life comedy following a group teenager's meeting other teenagers. That's it. Some teen angst and some swearing and underage smoking and drinking let's go.
