Response to: YOUR favorite music while making art Posted September 14th, 2024 in Art

whatever tames my unmedicated, dopamine deficient, allergic-to-sitting-down-for-more-than-an-hour, fidgety caboose long enough for me to complete work

it’s kind of like a balancing act because if my background noise is too boring, i have a higher chance of getting distracted or losing interest in what i’m doing. if my background noise is too exciting, i won’t be able to sit still

that being said, a mix of classic rock, vocaloid, 00s/10s k-pop and pop, and some hip-hop/r&b tends to be the sweet spot for me. i also like to listen to video essays or podcasts (the ones that read r/aita or r/nuclearrevenge posts are my guilty pleasure tbh (as long as it’s read by a person and not an ai))

on the days where i can listen to something calmer, i usually like the sound of classroom/library ambiance, slow and soft piano music, lofi hip-hop, and softer pop songs

on the days where it’s the exact opposite, i like drill music, horrorcore, trap, dirty south, metal, metalcore, breakcore, hard rock, and hyperpop :3

Do kids play Minecraft when Fortnite and Roblox are still going?

also yes!! i’d say all three games still have a very large audience of children even now. i don’t think it was as popular with kids as it was a couple of years ago during its “prime” but there are still plenty of kids on that game

Response to: Do you think the Minecraft movie will failed or succeed? Posted September 9th, 2024 in Video Games

i think it’s gonna either flop or have mediocre returns in the box office. i don’t think it’ll flop as hard as something like the borderlands movie, but i can’t see it making anything more than what’s juuuust needed to qualify this thing as a successful movie

a movie like this mainly hinges on appealing to younger crowds (so children and young adults ranging from about 10-18) but with the way this movie is going viral for how bad it looks, i think kids would be dissuaded from seeing it. not just because people are talking bad about it, but also because i think some kids would be genuinely horrified/put off by the animal models.

not to mention that some of the more “redeeming” qualities of the trailer like the featured actors aren’t exactly gripping to children. if they had more pop culture icons or celebrities who were more relevant to younger audiences, i think that would earn them more ticket sales

It worked out SO WELL when Jack Black was Claptrap in that recent Borderlands movie!

see, i’m not huge on borderlands in general, so i know next to nothing about this movie or its stats or anything, so i was under the impression that maybe it was some sort of mild box office flop. i was thinking “maybe it had a budget of like 100 million and only grossed like 40 million opening weekend”

my jaw nearly hit the floor when i looked this up and learned that the movie had a 110-120 million budget and only grossed 16.5 million GLOBALLY on opening weekend.

the minecraft movie might just be cooked.

That seems to be the huge problem with both Hollywood and triple-A games--the absurdly-large budgets that they can't seem to shake off. It simultaneously makes them too risk-averse to even risk trying out a new IP or genre, but at the same time it seems so needlessly risky to spend at LEAST $100 million and close to a decade on an existing IP that really isn't THAT popular and in-demand, like Borderlands or that weird 2018 Ghost in the Shell movie where Scarlett Johannson pretended to be an Asian woman. Even regular-ol' TV shows have to be made on multimillion-dollar budgets now, it seems, making even the low-budget "weird" but original cartoons I grew up with in the 1990's too risky.

I'm old enough to remember when companies like SEGA considered weird, niche games like "Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg" to be a surprise hit just because they only expected it to sell, like 10,000 copies WORLDWIDE (and budgeted accordingly), but it actually ended up selling like 100,000 copies instead. Or when Nickelodeon literally had ANY OTHER cartoon to watch besides SpongeBob, even though the other cartoons obviously didn't quite make as much money for the company as SpongeBob did in its prime. I recently learned that Star Wars: Outlaws is considered a flop for Ubisoft, which seems weird at first glance because selling 5.5 million copies at launch seems like a massive number, until I realized it probably cost them SO MUCH money just to borrow the Star Wars license from Disney and the graphical fidelity that it probably would have had to sell, like, a billion copies of the $110+ version of the game just to break even, let alone be considered a "hit." If A Minecraft Movie manages to set box office records despite or because of people mocking this original trailer, but still "flops" because the budget is too damn high, then something needs to change. Thank God for the indie scene, if even making a Star Wars game, a remake or an adaptation of a hugely-popular game or book is no longer the guaranteed money-maker it once was.

yeah, agreed. expensive =/= better and that seems to be a concept that these larger film companies don’t understand, especially when they’re going for reboots. i really don’t get how they don’t see that this formula they’re going for isn’t working since it’s been failing for a while now

i really wanna redraw this miku picture actually lol

i'd say that overall my art has gotten mildly better, especially in terms of anatomy and color theory usage

i also started to use bolder lines over time because bold lines are cool and awesome and oh so pleasing to look at

Also, glad to see the costuming department had $5 dollars to spare. Why is Steve just Jack Black but in a teal shirt?

because its JACK BLACK dont you guys just love JACK BLACK i thought yall couldnt get enough of JACK BLACK like the actor JACK BLACK did we mention that this movie is going to have JACK BLACK in it like JACK BLACK from beloved series such as kung fu panda yea that JACK BLACK

it kind of feels like theyre more focused on making as much money from this movie as possible, putting their budget into making this movie look “cool” by having a star like jack black feature in it while not caring for any other details like costuming or etc. i mean, why care about anything like making a believable setting or having quality world building or all that other hoopla when you can just have jack freaking black in the cast? people will absolutely spend money just to see him, right? right?

Response to: Thoughts on the Minecraft Movie Teaser Posted September 6th, 2024 in Video Games

didn’t watch the official teaser so i have no comments on the story or anything like that

however the way this movie looks is giving me phantom itch all over my body. it reminds me of those old “minecraft in real life” videos that were popular like nine years ago with the mobs and blocks that looked way more detailed than they had any right being

i feel like if they wanted to make a minecraft movie, they should have either leaned more into looking realistic or totally gone all out with making everyone and everything look all pixelated and blocky like the base game. having so much “realistic squareness” just makes everything look uncanny imo

i can imagine some guys in suits sitting at a round table like “okay lads what do we do to make bank off this beloved gaming franchise” and some other guy is like “lets render every eyelash on the sheep”

so true!! i used to have sonic free riders when i was a kid and it was basically unplayable with how bad the kinect controls were, but i still revisit the theme song to this day cause its catchy

im not even sure if it was just an all around issue with the kinect or not, because when i’d use it to play dance central it picked up on movements just fine… meanwhile you could jump high enough to concuss yourself via ceiling fan and somehow free riders still wouldn’t register that you’re trying to move.

Response to: How do I get my art noticed more? Posted September 3rd, 2024 in Art

i have a whopping 13 fans i think im qualified to answer this

jokes aside, it’s like what everyone else says: interact with the community on here!! i post under different art threads here and there, and sometimes i get followed just by being perceived by other people even if i don’t put out new pieces

what i’ve found is that while skill can take you a long way, putting yourself out there and making yourself known to people can incentivize them to wanna keep up with what you make and post. keep posting art, but also reach out and maybe show some personality with jokes or advice or… anything, really!! just let people know that “hey im here and i exist and i make cool stuff”
