I think my first pay was 600$, I actually felt guilty because the game was a flop. Anyway, only until very recently I didn't know NG's API pays the same percentage as CPMStar. Had I known that any sooner I would've gone with the NG Api for my last game, because in the end I'm afraid I'm the kind of ass who picks those kind of things based on the highest possible pay-out.

That's like, on of the most famous animations on the wubs, I remember it had some controversy surrounding it, can't remember what that was about though. One of the first Flash animations I recall seeing, along with the stop crying your heart out collab thing.

I admit I haven't done much so far, school's been keeping me busy. I will finish it though, no worries.

It might not make it to the news bulletins in the US, but it does here. I remember the news went on and on about the recent 'massacres' in Germany and Scandinavia for days and days. Anyway, there are far more gun related deaths/homicides (per 100.000 citizens) in the US than in the EU. So it's not surprising that every now and then you get a clutter of deaths and there's another massacre.

There are 500 million people in the European Union. Probably has to do with the fact that of the 300 million US citizens a bigger percentage has access to guns than in the EU.

Yep, just make it bigger than the flash width/height and tween it.

Response to: Moving background Posted January 19th, 2010 in Game Development

Drop your background in a movieclip and tween it? Is this for a game or for a movie?

Google your collab and click the 'in cache' link, everything is there. I would link to the threads, but for some reason it won't let me.

Response to: Collab thread removed? Posted January 18th, 2010 in Game Development

Moderating issues. I believe you guys have to start a new thread, unfortunately. The threads weren't deleted because the collabs weren't approved, so it's okay to start a new thread.

Response to: Just a question about releasing. Posted January 18th, 2010 in Game Development

Exactly, if you want to make money off of ads in a game you shouldn't worry too much about the time you release it, you should only have to worry about the quality of your game. You won't make a whole lot of money off of a game that doesn't hit the frontpage. 5.000 views on Newgrounds, which is probably around the average if your game doesn't hit fp, will probably only make you like 2 dollars. You want to make sure your game is top-notch, so you might get fp or a daily and it will spread out to other sites, that's how you make money with ads.

The standard Apple earbuds are as shitty as earbuds get. Try some different ones some time and you'll realize that immediately. Apple does have a set of proper earbuds and believe it or not they are actually priced at a reasonable level for the quality you get. Anyway, there are hundreds of different kinds of earbuds out there, this is a pretty good site to get you started.

We're not here to supply you with all the code you need. You're probably using AS3 in CS3. Look up how to make a button with Actionscript 3, there are plenty of tutorials on that out on the web.

I'm willing to bet they aren't, and were probably smart enough to realize that it's about to head downhill.

There's indeed a limited amount of businesses that can effectively promote their product with MochiAds. Now that I think of the only companies that usually do are somehow related to gaming, and those companies probably benefit from the recession. So you might be right in saying that when the economy recovers those companies will actually have a smaller marketingbudget. We'll see how things develop I suppose.

My expert opinion (I am not an expert) is that mochi thinks that flash game profit-potential will take a dip or even a steep fall once the economy recovers, so they sold it off while it was still worth a ton

I think that might have an effect, although I'm not sure how big that effect will be.

At 1/14/10 04:08 PM, 4urentertainment wrote: Now why would flash game profit decrease when the economy recovers?

A gazilion amount of small factors which might be noticeable when you combine them. There were several articles in the news here last year about the fact people spend more money on things like Christmas gifts and fireworks than the previous years, despite the recession. Researchers think that's because people want to buy a little happiness in these sober times. So maybe more people play flash games as a diversion (wild theory there, it would be interesting to see some numbers from game portals so you can compare the amount of visitors though).

Another reason might be that Flash games are free, so that might make them more popular now that people have a little less to spend. There are also people who were fired and do nothing all day but play flash games :) And then of course there's less to do in offices because there aren't as many orders and such, so it could be people spend more time playing flash games during business hours. In all seriousness though, I don't think the recession has that big of an impact on the amount of views games have. Besides, when the economy recovers wouldn't more companies have a larger budget to spend on ads and such (thus making Mochi more money)?

For this you might want to look into using a v-cam.

2. If I have animated a scene as 'scene 1', but decide I want to add a scene that precedes it, how do I change the current 'scene 1' into 'scene2'?

In the Scenes window, create a new scene and just drag and drop 'Scene 1' below 'Scene 2'.

3. Arranging layers so that certain symbols appear in front of others is something im aware of, but, what if later on in the timeline, I decide I want a symbol to start falling behind other symbols that it previously appeared on top of?

As far as I know of there is no build in way of doing this, without using Actionscript anyway. The easiest way is probably to cut up your tween/animation, have one part on one layer and when you want to change the depth paste the other part on a lower or higher layer.

Although I think it's great professionals try to recruit on Newgrounds, I think it's a bit of a long stretch you'll find someone on these forums who's able (and/or willing) to work for an office in Chicago. Not too many people come on these forums (compared to NG's amount of users), a majority of the people who do are kids, the majority of the users who are of legal age to work don't know too much about Actionscript, and I imagine not a whole lot of the small group we've left lives in the Chicago area. Good luck though.

Nope, well for a limited amount of time the game may be exclusive to one site. Sponsorship is more about putting the websites branding all over your game and making sure it gets spread all of the web, thus linking people to the sponsor's website.

I watched Twilight the other night with my mates. I was surprised to see it was actually as bad as everyone says it is, I thought it would at least have some quality to it. Apparently whatever quality it does have is invisible for male audiences.

Response to: Does Newgrounds Sponsor Games? Posted January 9th, 2010 in Game Development

From my experience Tom is pretty quick in replying to pm's. So if you give your pm a proper title such as 'NG Sponsorship Request' or something, you'll probably get a reply within a couple of days.

Response to: The Flash 'Reg' Lounge Posted January 8th, 2010 in Game Development

I thought you would say that. I'm not saying everything should look lifelike, point is when stuff should look realistic, like in Titanic, it takes away from the experience when it doesn't look lifelike.

I know right. I'm happy I'll be alive when the day comes that computer generated images will be indiscernible (?) from real-life imagery, storytelling-wise that's going to open up loads of possibilities. Avatar looked pretty damn good, but it still had something comicy about it which made it looks less believable. Maybe because Pandora is so completely different from what we're used to seeing everyday.

Anyway, this thing mostly had buildings and other still objects in it, so that might make it a tad less impressive, but still, when the trees and plants come in - damn. Heh, I remember when Titanic came out though and I thought it looked life-like, yet, when you look back at it now it's almost laughable how bad that movie looks. So it might take a couple of years before we get to that point, but still...

Response to: The Flash 'Reg' Lounge Posted January 8th, 2010 in Game Development

This is one of the most stunning pieces of CGI I've ever seen. Especially for a one-man job. Try to watch the entire thing.

Also, congrats the frontpage and medal winners.
