Becoming a Supporter just to change my username May 24, 2021

Hi everyone,


I'm pretty new to the forums and here goes my first topic.

After my recent discovery of that I had a Newgrounds account (looking around and trying out thing for a bit), I also saw potential of using it. However, nowadays with social media I find it important to have usernames aligned with each other.


That's what brings me to this topic. Because I'm not sure if becoming a supporter for just one feature is allowed and then going back to non-supporter.

It would make sense if I stayed for a minimum of 1 month to use the perk and then get off after it right?


( I genuinely need to make sure my name change stays after no longer supporting NG )

You can absolutely just become a supporter one time to change your username. There's no commitment for additional months after that!


Your name change will still be there after your supporter status runs out.

I think I stumbled upon a BONUS issue right now.

I wasn't actually aware about the URL on Newgrounds, as some other social media sites tend to have permanent URLs after creating an account.


So I found resources like

Wikigrounds - Changing User Name

and the FAQ of course


I'm becoming slightly unsure if I should take the gamble as it does change my username but maybe not to the 100.00%

I'm unsure of what you're asking.


The stuff that you're linking to is from 10+ years ago before people could change their username via becoming a supporter.


All old usernames you have will transfer to the current username. So if you were to type in frobotech.newgrounds.com, coachfro.newgrounds.com, notcoachfro.newgrounds.com (all usernames that I use to have) they'll lead to my current profile and username of Fro.

I totally understand the redirect part of when you go to the old page (URL), that it brings you to the new one.


My question is basically:

If I change my username on profile, will it also update the coolnewname.newgrounds.com

I still don't really understand I don't think.


If you update your username you will be given a new URL. So if you change it to coolnewname the new url will now be coolnewname.newgrounds.com

It's not happening, you had your chance before 2012. Back then, if you were lucky that Tom or the other admins took the time for your request based on the PM.

Honestly, I wish renaming your account wasn't an option at all. It's too ripe with potential for abuse. (And other places charge 10 bucks just for the privilege alone.)
