Well at least try to get that level before you head out. Even if the ranks scale, it's unlikely there's a retroactive rank reduction (say that 10 times fast lol), so you'll at least have Sergeant Major done.
I was supposed to be praporschichk (sp) a week ago but my dad took away the internet for ....a week...and now (luckily for many of you) I'm going to a camp for 2 weeks. I'll still have internet access, just not one-tenth of what I have now. Oh well, There'll still be time for ownage...I guess...

I was referring to the 666 in the original name, not numbers in general. I made that specific comment due to your own quote regarding the prejudice usually held against teenagers.
As blonde_bitch (s)he had a picture of some random female a couple months ago, then switched off to using no picture. As majin there was no picture. As x-death there's now that goofy troll/turtle thingy with green skin ... probably from DBZ or something of that ilk. I think the latest listing on their profile is the closest to the truth we've seen yet.

I see. That was actually the subject of one of my first threads, as a matter of fact. Do you think that there are also a lot of people who put fake ages in their profile to make themselves more acceptable in the NG community? I mean, there's no way that blonde_bitch666 is 18. I seem to remember someone saying something about her being only 15 just a few months ago...
Another thing. Is it just me or do all three of those profile links you gave in your first post on this page link to the same profile?

A little of both lol. Actually, it's why I put that grid up. The profile has "evolved" over the last few weeks along with the name changes. That particular Portal ID all three link to has possessed those names and their respective descriptions.
Last time I looked he was a 15 year old boy.
When I first looked, she was a 23 year old woman.
This is also why I've been playing semantic games with pronouns.

I briefly mentioned it in here a while ago, but even I can't find it lol I'll just go over it again and why I picked the people I have so far. As this is a peek into the way my mind works, this post may not suitable for younger viewing audiences (or those with short attention spans).
BBS UotD has a few basics like you have to have a picture but is essentially random. For my FU, you have to be an Elite Guard and, for the most part, not be on the top 50BP list. After that, you have to have shifted from my being aware of your existence (I recognize your name when I actually focus on it) to my being aware of you (your name stands out as I go past it). These are the people that, as I scroll through my excel list of 200 names in the same font, will still manage to catch my eye. There's a variety of things that cause that, but not all of them are good ;)
The basis of this list is people ranked 51 and higher, so I wanted the FU to be about those folks. In the first FU, I opted to go with ramagi instead. She was about to become NG's first Supreme Commander, so it seemed appropriate to do so. It also set the precedent for me to feature another top50 if the mood strikes me and some similar justification comes up.
With the 2nd week, I had a toss-up that I was forced to make based on timing. stafffighter was definitely going to make top 50 before I posted another weekly update with an FU, whereas biteme2514 might make it. You'll note my concern was misplaced. (Sorry, sorry, couldn't resist lol) The only thing about staff that had stood out to me up to that point was the rate of his climb of the list. In bite's case, his picture had stood out long beforehand. Staring down the barrels of guns kind of gets my attention ... at least this time it's not real ... Anyway, that, plus doing math for him here made him stand out more to me than staff so I opted to go with him. I have a similar situation clattering around in my head for next week and am likely to make a similar choice for similar reasons (note the similarities in my adjectives?), although I may get back to the one I opt to not feature later on.
In this latest one, I wasn't under pressure of someone leaving for the top50 so could pretty much use whomever I wanted. x-death619 had first come to my attention because, at the time, he was a she and was named blonde_bitch666. Continuously updating their name made them stick, which made me notice the constant profile changes. Since (s)he hadn't changed names over the last week, meaning they may be done goofing around with it at least for a while, I wanted to get them posted while that information was still relevant.
I don't actually do any research on someone until after I've picked them, so none of the extraneous stuff I say about the FU has anything to do with why they are the FU. After that, I'll start poking around through their old posts and reviews as well as checking out their linked site (if any), see what that's linked to, etc. It was a very brief rummage through bite's post search. The fact that he had over 200 pages of posts was downright scary. x-death I discovered had been a featured artist and #1 pop that way and got some background that helped shape the way I was going to phrase things. While my writing style appears the same, the general tone is quite different between those two write-ups.In general, the extra information is just little tidbits and factoids that maybe you knew and maybe you didn't, but is just something else about them other than BPs.
Not asked, but I'll answer anyway as it relates to your question (pause for the groans to subside) is the artist/flash I feature as well. If someone(thing) is listed as a favorite author(flash) and is already in the top 50, I'm not going to use them unless I have to and yes, I already have a game plan for if/when that comes up. My idea for that part of the update was to try and spotlight some artists who are not as well known nor as easily accessible. I go through the FU's favorite artists who aren't top 50 and watch/play all of their flashes, then do the same thing with favorite flash, and watching all of those artists' work as well. After that marathon I'll pick who I'm going to use and re-watch some of their work to let some commentary start filtering together in my head. At that point I'm trying to at least say something favorable about the work, as was the case with "dbz wazzzzup". Hush; go read it again. If you look really closely at it, you'll see that it's positive; maybe only +.001, but it's still positive. Those comments are all subjective. Some of the things I like you may not, and vice-versa. Usually I can at least appreciate the artist's intent, and can readily work from there.
The comments on the works are also intended as a bit of a guide for the people reading it to give them a sense of whether it is worth it for them to go watch it. My comparison of "Till death do us part" to "No remorse" back in biteme's feature is a good example of that. Neither of them are fluff. If you're in the mood to see something cheesy, that's not for you, but you might remember it for later when you are looking for something serious.
Quite a nice and long explanation you got there Dogman. Ha. So it raises another question.... what happens if you chose an Flash artist as your pick of the week? Will you discuss his works or his fav. artist works?
At 7/10/03 06:55 AM, D0GMA wrote: The firefight for 3rd place continues with a vengeance between TheJoe324 and fixit, but that's actually not why I'm bringing this up. Both of them should become Brigadier Generals well before the weekend is over. When ramagi and Ryo_Hahn got there, it required 19,500 total. This will be our first real test to see if BP rank scaling exists, and is dynamic. Another one to keep an eye on is GuineVir, who has been stalled at 6031 for quite a while. If he suddenly drops from Master Sergeant to Sergeant First Class, you know we've got trouble right her in River City.
Dude, we already know that scaling isn't happening. RyoHahn leveled up at 25,500 a couple days after Ramagi hit the top. There's no way he would have had scaling been unlocked, because that would be the next highest rank, and thus, the most scaled (aside from her actual point total for Supreme Commander, of course). The difference wouldn't be that noticeable after a few days down in the Sergeant ranks, but it certainly would have been at Elite Guard General (26).
Speaking of RyoHahn, you've got his name totally wrong in your list:

Dogman? LOL!
That's Dogma, man. The difference in meaning between Dogma and Dogman is... pretty freakin' large.
Speaking of Dogma's new name, though. What's the DEAL, man? Ajax695 was so much better. Are you sticking with this one or are you gonna be going back to Ajax? I gotsta know so I know whether or not to change your name on my list.

As was the case with x-death, I'm going to be trying to do both.

When Ryo made General, ramagi only had like 30,100, which may not have been enough to kick even the General rank up by 1 or 2 BPs. There's really two questions that need to be addressed with scaling. First off is if it actually happens, and we aren't going to know for sure until ramagi gathers quite a few more BPs.
The second is, if it does scale, is it dynamic? The XP is dynamic, such that when human makes a deposit, everyone's level requirement goes up a smidge. If BPs are dynamic, ramagi having 400+ over would then influence each of the rank requirements in the same fashion. If it's not dynamic scaling, we may not see an adjustment until she has 500, 1k, or maybe even 5k, at which point everyone's rank requirements would then be adjusted.
I'm keeping the question open as I don't think we have enough information to be sure yet. You're probably right that it doesn't, but I hate surprises so I always try to plan for the worst.
As to the name, I think I'll stick with this for a while. Ajax was getting boring. I've only used the damned ID for the last 7 years and was getting the itch to try on something different.
Hehe, sorry about that comment there Dogma. I was paying attention to my spelling errors.
Hmm you do have an interesting theory though... I like to see what the future will indeed hold. Maybe oneday we'll see a list of regulars on the BBS. haha!
Well... I just reached my latest rank at the amount that was listed.. So if there is a sliding scale, ramagi doesn't have enough points yet for it to effect everyone else.

Dude. Yes we are.
Fixit just hit Brigadier General, along with TheJoe, at the exact number it's always been set to.
It was understandable that many people would be scared of scaling before Ramagi hit the top rank (although I never was too scared, as there were absolutely NO reasons for scaling to happen EXCEPT that people for some reason think that blams and protects HAVE to be just like experience points).
But the thing is, blams and protects have never been like experience points.
exp: you get exp for signing up, making a profile, checking boxes for mailing lists, getting referred on a submission, yadda yadda yadda... and of course, for depositing after voting on movies (any which way, you can vote 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5, you can vote randomly, you can vote accurately, whatever).
blams/protects: you get b/p points not just for voting, but for voting CORRECTLY on movies. You have to vote with the majority and send a movie to the portal or to the graveyard.
exp: you can only get exp from 5 movies a day, at 2 exp a pop, for a grand total of 10 exp a day, no more.
blams/protects: you can get as many b/p points as there are movies submitted per day, as long as you vote correctly.
exp: ranks people basically by how long they've been on NG, how faithfully they show up (even if only for a couple minutes at a time).
b/p: ranks people by how much time and effort they've put into hardcore voting. You can spend hours and hours every day and actually get a payback, unlike with exp.
exp: levels are fairly arbitrary, scaling with the top users' experience amount, aside from a solid unscaling bottom 8 levels.
b/p: levels are set in stone at certain intervals, there is no difference between the early levels and the late levels, they all happen the same way. The only thing that changes is whether they're 100 apart or 500 or 1000 or whatever. And most importantly, the top user was never at the top rank UNTIL they crossed the 30,000 mark.
If b/p were like exp, then ramagi would have ALWAYS been supreme commander since she became the #1 blammer/savior.
But wouldn't that kinda take the fun out of it? She wouldn't have gotten to climb through all those increasingly-cool ranks. She would have jumped to the top one and missed out on the fun the people chasing her would have had.
And those chasing would end up with an insurmountable goal. Exp chasers at least can rest easy in the fact that while they can't gain very fast on humantarget, at least HE can't outpace THEM, because they're both limited to 10 exp a day. Ramagi isn't limited to any amount of b/p a day.
So now you think it's different than the exp?
Look, everyone's so scared of the scaling because exp has scaling, but now you think that if b/p has scaling, it's not dynamic for some reason? Well, if it scales, just like exp, then shouldn't it scale just like exp? Dynamically?
It's already been proven it doesn't scale dynamically by numerous people ranking up, and by the fact that we do not have a 10,000/10,123 type counter in our profiles to tell us how much it's scaling by.
There's absolutely no reason to think that Ramagi hitting 30,500 is going to force a sudden jump up in scale. Do you have any idea how many people (like the people low down on your list) would lose a rank and get pissed off and never come back to NG again because the main activity they enjoyed, blamming and protecting, suddenly sucks?
The Fulps aren't going to drive away ad customers. That would be horrible business practice.
Now, if they suddenly decide to introduce scaling, then bam, suddenly scaling does exist. But it doesn't exist right now. And if they're smart, it never will (at least until there's a huge need for it, because the top ranks are getting too filled).
But right now, we have around 20 officers and 10,000s of enlisted men. That's insane. We need more and more officers to even come close to resembling a real army.

A) there can be more than one lv 30, they just have to have the same exp.
B) there can be more than one deity whistle, they just have to have the same "secret whistle point stuff."
C) there can be more than one Supreme Commander, they just have to have passed the same milestone, 30,000 points.

I'm not sure about that. Ryo's pretty determined to get up there, too. And even if he traveled at half the speed of fixit on average, he'd still beat fixit with time to spare. I wouldn't bet on either of 'em, though, it could be a close race. Well, in a few months it could be a close race. #;-}>

True enough, but unless Ryo just gives up on NG or turns into Nemesis (aka "The B/P Turtle"), I wouldn't put speeding up past him as he gets closer and closer. He's the only person we can say (for now) has only a bit over 4000 points to go.

If the Elite Guard is to be considered as the "army", actually less than 250.
And then a Police force and a Security Agency of thousands.
I'm slowly working on that officer business..

Time for an update, aqnd of course I pick a day with a 3 hour maintenance lol. Next one on Tuesday (also a 3 hour).
First off, congrats go out to:
BWS : Private
Impetus : Private First Class
Eliempee : Corporal
TaiShoSpire : Corporal
Denvish : Staff Sergeant
overtired : Staff Sergeant
Syme : Staff Sergeant
ImportRacer666 : Sergeant First Class
Grats also to our top50s who ranked up:
RageVI : Praporshchik
fixit : Brigadier General
TheJoe324 : Brigadier General
In case anyone missed it, TheJoe popped into this thread to let us know that when he became Brigadier General it was AT 19,500. This was the same value required for ramagi and RyoHahn, so goes a long way to reinforcing the premise that BP ranks do not scale, as ramagi had ~30,500 at the time.

But right now, we have around 20 officers and 10,000s of enlisted men. That's insane. We need more and more officers to even come close to resembling a real army.
And then a Police force and a Security Agency of thousands.
I'm slowly working on that officer business..

The Elite Guard are now at 221 people. I think if you get ONE BP you end up being ranked about 10k, so I presume that is what gfox was referring to ... the thousands of people who aren't ranked as Elite Guard. The Elite units in real military forces usually number well under 1% of the total forces, so I don't find our current ratio surprising.

Apologies if I somehow doublepost - if anyone's interested, when I levelled up to Police Lieutanant a few days ago, my b/p rank was less than 1000 - I'm on 507 b/p points now and ranked in the low 900's - therefore there's still less than 1000 people with 500 blam points. Only another 1000 to go...

So do the Elite units count as "officers" like you were talking about on the previous page or do only the people with gold badges count as "officers"?
Oh well, I'm pretty close to leaving that list, huh? See you all on the Top 50 list! Soon anyways...
