Response to: Most underrated videogame character Posted April 30th, 2023 in Video Games

For me it's all about Amaterasu from Okami and the Colossi in Shadow of the Colossus, those guys don't get enough credit as to how awesome they look and are.

Response to: The sugarcoating of art critique Posted April 30th, 2023 in Art

I think the best way to give a critique is to use the critique sandwich method. You say two good things about an art piece and then you sandwich the wrong thing in between those two things. It's an excellent way to not discourage people from making art, it also serves to point out what they are doing right and not just what they are failing at. Another key point is to only give critique when people are actually asking for it, if someone is just posting the art but not asking for any feedback, 9 times out of 10 they will not be in a position to receive the feedback, and lastly, if there is something technical that is wrong with a piece, one should be able to show it and not just say it. Giving examples, references, and tutorials on how to make something better is much more helpful for people than just telling them "it looks bad" or "that sucks".

Response to: AI 'Art' Posted April 25th, 2023 in Art

I think people should take the time to alter and improve the ai art before they post them on her, instead of just trying to pass of work that's not really theirs as their own. If you use Ai art to come up with some cool silhouettes and then paint something awesome from that, I'd be down for stuff like that, but straight up posting art that you didn't make doesn't sit well with me.

I really like this guy's design! I love the whole traffic light head on him. Your background work is really good too. Excited to see more of your work.

You got a really cool style going for you. Any plans on ever going digital with your art?

Response to: How did the pandemic effect your art? Posted April 25th, 2023 in Art

The pandemic made me hunker down and focus on my art business as much as possible. I had so much time to draw and learn new skills that I felt I had a chance to level up in many aspects of my art. I was able to release some games, some animations, and a ton of cool new merch and other projects that I think wouldn't have happened had I not had the time to really focus on it.

Really cool colors on these! The anatomy is a little all over the place, specifically in regard to the proportions but the angles and the colors are really nice! Great work.

Alright, thanks for the advice, appreciate it.

Sure thing, happy to help.

Response to: Will an artist enjoy animating Posted April 7th, 2023 in Animation

There's really no way of knowing until you give it a try. I personally love animating but the clean-up stages are so boring to me. However, they are a crucial part of my animations so gotta take the good with the bad.

Response to: how long do you usually work on your animation? Posted April 7th, 2023 in Animation

Dang! It definitely depends on wether we're talking about a quick scene which could take me 3 days, or a short movie of 3-5 minutes, which can take me about 2-3 years. It's all about how many scenes, backgrounds, and characters it has and the complexity of the acting.

Yeah for sure! I don't see how it's any difference between recording yourself or actors and animating on top of it. Definitely a nice tool to help you animate.

Response to: Does AI art require talent? Posted April 7th, 2023 in Art

I personally don't think that AI art requires any particular talent from the person typing the prompts, that being said I don't rule out that it can be an excellent tool for artists. It can help you quickly develop concepts, ideas, and even final art through extra editing and over-painting. So while the typing of ai prompts doesn't require talent, fixing, iterating, and expanding on the original ai art does.

Response to: LETS MEET COOL ARTISTS ! Posted April 7th, 2023 in Art

Hey everyone, I'm AntonioMabs aka Mabelma. Been drawing and painting since I was about 7 years old and have been working professionally as a freelance artist and animator for over 17 years now. It's been a ride indeed but I've enjoyed most of it.

Response to: What's your favorite story within a story? Posted April 6th, 2023 in Animation

Interesting question. It might not be a story within a story per-se, but all the tv skits that they have in Rick and Morty really get me and I think many of them end up becoming actual things in the story, like the plumbus for example. That kind of stuff is really fun to see.

Response to: Would There Ever Be A 51st State? Posted April 6th, 2023 in Animation

I don't think there will be, for economical and political reasons but either way. This post has no business being in the animation forum.

I have a set of skills that involves turning character portraits and full body illustrations or OCs into slightly loopable Gifs.

I have made a lot of these before by animating still character images for playing cards similar to Hearthstone, Gwent and Legends of Runeterra. I do full animation as well.

Post your OC or character of interest here. I will animate it into a Gif in a cut out style animation. Simple.

NB: If you are interested in submitting mature content, inform me first.

I'd love to see what cool thing you can make Mr.Mabs do. Maybe a simple idle or a running animation, something fun like that.

it was fun :)

I noticed the choppiness bugging me a bit. So i cleaned this one just for you.
