Went hiking the other day and came across a big 3 foot Eastern Hognose. It did its textbook hiss and body flatten/flare out when I approached it to take a picture. I would have taken a shot at handling it but it was pretty pissed off to begin with, and even though its only rear fang mildly venomous I didn't have much desire to get bit and deal with the unpleasantness that come from a hognose bite.

Response to: How to get views on Newgrounds Posted May 1st, 2015 in Art

There is also so much more respect for those who can get tons of views through quality work rather than resorting to cheap lazy looking porn.

Also as was touched on in other posts, the T&A stuff is constantly changing top ranks. This seems to show that people really only are looking at it for wanking purposes. They view it, then get bored of it and toss it aside for the newer fresher drawing of tits. So your lazy porn piece might get a crap ton of views, but it will get knocked into obscurity once you produce a new piece or someone else makes something 14yo boys can get their rocks off too dumb to find real porn.

Making a true quality piece has real lasting effect and gets the views as well. AlvinHew has been dominating the highest ranked pieces since the art portal has been around. And the other pieces in that category have been pretty solid in their position as well. Usurping the order of those pieces is much much more difficult, but possible. And when its done the piece that does it is 99% of the time not some porn drawing.

All the other arguments in this thread have been excellent, and covered pretty much everything else I was going to say. But I'll add in one more. If you dont like that tits and ass getting all the views, then stop contributing to it. Saturate the portal with good stuff, dont click obvious fapbait, and encourage others to do so too. Ultimately you cant stop everyone, but if more people actually voted/viewed/reviewed/contributed non porn related stuff it would encourage others to come out and say "hey this piece is actually getting legitimate responses, maybe I should strive for that." There is a lot of porn art flowing into the portal each day, but also a lot of good SFW stuff as well. Help advocate for that stuff and ignore the porn, if people lose interest in it it will slowly reduce in quantity. It will never go away without us rewriting the rules but it can curb the amount maybe.

That or flood the adult and mature section with so much stuff that people cant masturbate too that they stop trying to look there for stuff to get their rocks off to. The adult section was originally intended as a section for the more humorous stuff that also happened to include pics of dicks or awkward sex, look at the earliest few pages of it and you will see what its original direction was.

Instead of posting links, use the upload image feature. Yes it will take a bit to get the whole comic up but people will be more likely to see it that way. If you want to offer a link to a higher quality larger image to go along with it that is fine as well.

I strongly suggest you send me a PM before talking about snakes with this user.
I'd tell you here. But I don't want to derail your thread.

I am well aware of the habits of this user. But they seem to like snakes, and if they don't actually own that animal they still contributed to the thread more or less properly. The only thing that wouldn't be allowed in this thread would be animal abuse or totally non-snake or reptile related posts. Although posting an animal claiming you own it when you dont is certainly frowned upon its not the worst of offenses.

Depends on the snake. Many of the smaller ones are fine in a 20 gallon tank or tub. Larger ones would need 75+ gallon or large tubs. It varies to much between each species but most don't need as large an area as you would expect since they almost all like hiding in small places and don't care for exploring too much (there are exceptions however).

Snake pic this week is a baby Brooks King we recently got in my store. Something like this would be pretty happy in a 30 gallon tank when full grown with average high temps (about 75-85F, 24-30c) and regular humidity (20-60%). They like bedding they can burrow a little in and a few things to climb on a bit. They do move around quite a bit in their cages when comfortable so some extra hides is never a bad idea. They can be kind of pissy though and tend to shit all over you before they are tamed out though.

Go for the pythons, generally a simple ball python is a great beginner snake. Cheap, low maintenance and easy to care for. Rattlers are illegal to own in most states, and will also kill the ever living fuck out of you.

At 3/7/15 08:04 PM, DoctorStrongbad wrote: Are snakes easy to take care of?

Many species are. Most snakes you can find in a pet store require simple set ups of some sort of heat source, a few good hiding spots, appropriate sized tanks and bedding. Feeding is generally easy, especially if they are on frozen mice. Just once a week or so, and don't worry if you forget. @Malachy covered most of their benefits pretty well in his post.

Only thing I would add is that your first purchase is generally the largest purchase. But lots of the stuff you buy will last the lifetime of the snake. And once you have a cage set up on a timer system you can leave for weeks and not worry about anything. Try doing that with any other animal.

Now enjoy this Blue Eyed Leucistic Columbian Rainbow Boa I saw today.

Jeez, some artists ...

Actually I don't blame the artist on this one. His only fault was posting a work in progress publicly and offering no ideas as to what he was going for. Jacks points were all great and valid, if this was a final piece. I would generally recommend against both actions going on here. Don't post sketches to public portal, and don't review sketches as final pieces.

Instead if one is going to post a sketch they should do so with a question or statement about what the final piece is intended to look like. And if you are going to review a sketch I would highly highly recommend brushing up on the artists previous work so you can see where their process leads as well as what mistakes they commonly make and if they have already started making that mistake.

Lets assume that the artist has no other work to go off of, and you still want to offer the sketch a review. I would focus more on what your reactions are initially and where you think it might be going based on what you see. Telling someone what needs fixing in a sketch is a waste of time typically because they are hopefully well aware of where the weak points lie in an unfinished work and what will get fixed in the final piece. However telling someone a prediction can either reaffirm the artists intentions and give them a nice little boost since they know they are on the right track, or give them a new idea for a direction they still have room to take but didn't think of. It can even wake them up to some changes they may need to make to get to their goal if its not yet apparent but they felt like it should have been at that point.

You would have to take the damn car apart to do that. Shit I had to remove a good bit of the engine just to replace the damn air filter. More trouble than its worth.
