Retrospector - FNF: Without context, he's just another furry OC with annoyingly bright neon colors, however what makes me really dislike his design is how misleading it is. You see, he's a demon who is the embodiment of the sin of Wrath and rules over the layer of Hell of that sin. His design reflects non of that, he looks like some average dragon dude who lives in a modern setting, he doesn't even have a shade of red, the color of Wrath. Gluttony of all people looks more like his sin then he does. Lust may have a boring design, but at least she looked like her sin, even if it was the laziest way to design it (Which is just a fanservice moth anthro).

https://en.touhouwiki.net/images/thumb/e/e5/Th18Misumaru.png/149px-Th18Misumaru.png

Misumaru - Touhou Project: As someone who likes the majority of the designs in this series (Including Hecatia and Chimata), I don't like how she looks. I think it's mostly because her colors don't fit well with each other, doesn't help that her palette is just too overloaded.

The concept that he wrote how his self-insert fursona is a badass demon king who bangs the embodiment of lust is pretty baffling to me. It sounds and looks like something out of a tween's deviantart.

Ey, why not have fun with your self-inserts? It’s not always a sign of poor writing or ego problems. (Although to be fair, that particular instance is probably somewhat gratuitous - I could psychoanalyze it but I won’t.)

Anyways, I think my least favourite designs are the Diamonds from Steven Universe. They had so much potential.
They commit mass genocide on a galaxy-wide scale, you could've made them even a little menacing.

Yellow just looks like a retro science fiction villain, minus the chrome. I reckon that’s probably intentional for a lot of the gems. Some of the other character designs do a way better job of modernizing it, though.

Doesn't seem like that to me, but alright.

To me, it was the massive shoulder pads and the dorky spiky helmet. 80s B Movie all over.

Ok, hear me out...

iu_698785_9832141.png

I actually love the Mr. Knight design. I like the juxtaposition of the suit and the mask. I also like the subtle details on the show’s version of the suit. But why did they add that weird seam for the show? It just looks like extra effort to make the design look less like something someone would actually wear, only to have an actual person wear it.

I bet what they were going for was to have it look like a scar, but on a mask instead of a face.

You can have fun with your self-inserts, just don’t expect the public to see the character the same way you do. Retrospector or perhaps the fan who put the remixer’s mascot into the game, may put the most badass backstory of all times for this character; however, there will be plenty of us who do not have the same or similar viewpoint as the writer. If this is canon for Retrospector’s mascot, I’m more stunned that he has a backstory to begin with than what that story is.

It’s like how McDonald’s gave Grimace this backstory in one of their promotional cartoons. I just wanted a Big Mac, why am I listening to this sob story? Same with Retrospector. I only heard that one Drawn to Life remix and saw that dragon thing in the corner and thought nothing of it. Wasn’t that character a Charizard once upon a time? Now he’s one of the seven rulers of hell? How many rulers of hell OCs are there!? I even made my own seven rulers of hell once upon a time! There must be a major power struggle in the ol’ pit of flames!

Also, I’m so glad I’m not part of the FNF fandom, because holy crap, the fan base made it so busy!

Generic anime designs. Gosh I hate them so much. Especially the style like oh my it's like 60% of anime is just drawn in one similar style.

One great example of it is Kirito, like my guy looks like a bystander.

Good anime character designs are quite rare but there are.

For me good character designs means Iconic, Hatsune Miku has a very great character design, her pose, her silhouette and her colour pallette match to her making Miku one of the most iconic anime styled character.

I mean, probably not as cringe as Gacha Life and funny “ironically”, but I ain’t gonna put GoAnimate on a pedestal for that! I’ve said before that a lot of western prime-time shows rely on the Family Guy aesthetic too much. GoAnimate is that degraded down to a product sold in the back of some guy’s van. Yes, it’s just a program, but there are so many better programs out there that also uses similar drag n’ drop features. 3D Movie Maker blows GoAnimate right out the water!

everything in F.I.S.T. which I mostly loved since it was a polished well designed good everything metroidvania.

except for the whole furry theme. ditch that and the game would have reached a far wider audience. i can't believe they did that.

i lump people who are into furry stuff in the same category as people with foot fetishes

∀x (∃e (e ∈ x ∧ ∀x ¬(x ∈ e)) ∨ ∃y ¬∃e (e ∈ x ∧ ¬∃z (z ∈ y ∧ z ∈ e ∧ ∀x ¬((x ∈ y ∧ x ∈ e) ∧ ¬(x = z)))))

Ey, not all of them are into it sexually. I know a lot of people who just enjoy designing animal characters with human traits. It’s a trope been around for ages, and there’s a lot of cool animals out there that can do cool stuff, so why not?

Of course, there’s no doubt that there are also people like Spy here.

This boss from Rayman Origins. It's just ugly and gross. Yes there's some other ugly characters in Rayman Origins/Legends none of them are to the level of the this one and I like most of the other designs

It's interesting. Have you ever seen any gross-out boss monsters, designed to elicit disgust from players, that you thought were well-designed? What makes those good and this not?

Most of these designs are literally just body suits with patches of armor on them. It's the laziest possible way to design a hero/villain outfit.

Most characters from Hazbin Hotel or Helluva Boss. The designs are ill suited to animation.

I get that Hell is red. I get that demons are red. What I do not get is how the characters are all almost the same shades of red, pink, and yellow (mostly on blond characters with paper white skin, nonetheless). There's no contrast. And sweet Jesus, the STRIPES! The bow tie and zig zag spiky teeth combo being overused bothers me too.

The designs of the characters don't say much about their personality or occupation, especially before the Hazbin pilot's characters got redesigned. Charlie's a pushover wearing a business suit, V is protective but has nothing other than her spear to prove it, Angel can't pick one occupation but he dresses in a way I can't even describe... and Alastor, you can't even tell he's supposed to be a deer. The only thing about his design that says "radio" is his mic.

The news anchor's head looks like an AirPod.

The hellhound lady from Helluva doesn't look very good when front facing and looks like a recolor of the creator's other anthro wolf character JayJay. The main imps having similar colors is understandable, but it still feels off. I feel bad for the people who have to draw 12 of those stripey horns per second.

The one thing I thought was clever about Charlie’s design is that her design is basically a performer costume (her attire) and makeup (represented by markings on her face)… and from the one episode I’ve seen, she’s the one who’s initiating all the musical numbers. She’s in essence just a theater kid, which based on the feel of the show, the creator probably is too, or at least deeply in the musical theater fandom in some way.

Is JayJay still being used? I can understand how an artist might reuse an old design for a new character, but if it’s that close and they’re both actively being drawn, it does seem to become a matter of “style” crippling the amount of visual distinction in designs. (Which that actually sounds like the main problem with the show that you’re describing.)

I guess the other enemies are more cartoony while the final boss is very weird. The music and the fight itself make it also a character I don't like

Not sure if she's still used. But, yes, the art style destroys the distinction between characters. They've all got stick thin limbs, tiny waists, pointy teeth, and patterns that make animators weep.

New 52 Superman has started to get on my nerves. It’s feels so cold and professional. He looks more like some one who would charge me a ticket for jay walking than someone who would save my life.iu_701918_9832141.pngthe collar’s really what kills it for me.

This is one thing… upon many things that frustrates me about Pokémon in general! Starting all the way from Gen 1, these wild creatures, that can be caught and owned as pets, get clothes upon evolution! Where to they get those clothes, I have NO idea. You can argue that Cinderance has fur that coincidentally look like pants, but then we have its prior evolution, Raboot, that is wearing a friggin’ turtleneck jumpsuit WITH POCKETS!!

How does that lizard understand the concept of a sniper rifle? Guns don’t exist in the Pokémon universe. Why should it? You can have some of the most deadly armory at the palm of your hand! The equivalent of family dogs, Growlithe and Arcanine, can melt through stronghold concrete as shown in the Generation series!
