Reason for this thread

I've decided to split my old art thread [Warning: NSFW!] into two, since; a. Newground threads now have an age rating, and b. I think a lot of folks would appreciate being able to look at my SFW art without having to sift through the NSFW art. So from now on all my NSFW stuff will be posted there and all my SFW stuff will be posted here.

About me

I'm just a guy that likes to make things from time to time. I am a biology undergraduate, with an interest in ecology and nature, especially insects. I mostly use fineliners, but I will sometimes experiment. I enjoy gaming, art, reading, writing, travelling, cooking, etc. I love a good discussion. Often I am depressed but I try to not let that keep me down. I try to keep an open ear for people since life can be hard. My favourite food is 'tartar steak' and my favourite cocktails are 'Death in the Afternoon' and 'Pina Colada float'. I absolutely love ice cream. My favourite (guilty pleasure) flavour is bubblegum.

Goals and Intentions

My goal with this thread is to not only show off my art, but also showcase improvements over time, generate discussion, vent, and occasionally talk about things happening in my life, which I think provides insight into the art that I make- which someone might find interesting! Who knows! The old thread was started when I was in a much different stage of life, and so starting this one in a way feels like starting a new page.

So! I hope you enjoy! Please feel free to pop in with anything at all, whether you want to just say hi or talk about a topic you think I'd find interesting or leave some scathing criticism- it's all appreciated and looked forward to.

I made another lil comic that probably won't go anywhere!

I don't think I'm very happy with it. Unlike the original lil sketch, the colours just don't pop as well on this paper. I also think while the borderless panel look is nice, it makes colouring in the background a pain- and I would've liked to do an inverse of the colours, so that the ground around her is white. But then what do you do near the borders of the page? Colour to the edge? Leave that blank too?

Ah well. At least the character is cute, might use her again for something.

Let me know what you think! What could be done better? What do you like? How would you do it?

I want to practice drawing more detailed people and different styles. I think a good way to do that will be copying the way Will Eisner draws humans, so expect more of that. Tips, indepth or not, for changing things up would be much appreciated!

Ahoy hoy! Here's some more stuff for ya'. Watercolours are quite fun!

Recently went to a jazz music festival, 'Love Supreme'. Never been to a festival before, definitely want to go to another one (thinking Boomtown or that exlusive one in Germany)! Saw Chaka Khan and Cool and the Gang, and discovered some that I added to my playlist (Hiromi Sonicwonder if anyone is wondering; she was a total gremlin on the piano!).

Ever been to a music festival yourself? Tell me about it, how was it? Who did you see? Maybe I'll add it to the list of things I want to see in life.

I've only ever been to a Christian rock music festival, myself. Naturally my Mom and her friend made me go with her. There's some solid Christian bands, to be fair.

Also, glad you like watercolors. Personally I find painting a bit frustrating (mainly because I have 2 cats that love to knock over cups of dirty watercolor water), but glad you enjoy it!

Interesting! I imagine they have less drinking and drug use than most festivals, haha. But yeah, as you say the Christian Rock genre isn't as bad as some people think, if you can stomach the message. I did enjoy listening to some of it on the car radio when going through Texas-Colorado- the less preachy songs at least.

I'm actually currently in an environment with two cats too! I'm currently using a watercolour pen with an refillable internal water reservoir, they're cheap as chips and convenient, and no need for a glass of water. Really recommend it, and it fits snug in the lil watercolour box so it's convenient to take it on the go too.

A lil' dump. Posting such a small amount of stuff sure makes me want to make something, ya know?

God I really dislike trying to copy others, but I know it's sometimes good to progress. Ugh. I guess I would have more luck if I were doing practice with a pencil or brush instead of a fineliner.

I'm going to challenge myself to work on something and show it off here soon. I've been tempted to upload my writing and stories too, but having some AI scrape it from this thread worries me.

I've gotten into analogue photography and been really enjoying it (even if it's a bit pricey!). There's a lot of pictures that I think came out well that I can't really show since they're of family.

It's probably silly to upload them this way rather than as a scan or pure digital since there's a large drop of quality and feel, but I hope you can still see what I'm trying to get across in the photos. But man, when you have them in your hands you can really realise why people fall in love with analogue. I'll probably take the negatives to a shop again to get some digital prints, so hopefully I can upload that sometime.
